World Employment Confederation strengthens collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Labour

A WEC delegation met Egypt’s Labour Minister Mohamed Gobran to boost cooperation and enable skilled Egyptian talent to access foreign labour markets, especially in Europe. They discussed the importance of vocational training, alignment with international skill standards and national strategies for workforce planning. Both sides agreed on a series of joint actions to further position Egypt as a regional hub for global workforce deployment.

On the sidelines of the 113th International Labour Conference, Egypt’s Minister of Labour, Mohamed Gobran held a high-level meeting with Bettina Schaller, President of the World Employment Confederation (WEC), accompanied by Mohamed El Derwy (CEO of Manpower Egypt and WEC Board Member) and Michael Freytag (WEC Public Affairs Manager). The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Egypt in Geneva.

The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation to enable skilled Egyptian talent to access foreign labour markets, particularly in Europe. Minister Gebran emphasized the government’s commitment to vocational training reform and alignment with international skill standards. He outlined key national initiatives, including the upcoming National Employment Strategy and the establishment of the Supreme Council for Workforce Planning.

Bettina Schaller affirmed WEC’s support and praised Egypt’s labour market transformation, highlighting the country’s strong youth demographic, vocational readiness, and attractiveness to international investors.

Both sides agreed to:

  • Form a joint Coordination Committee
  • Develop a framework for signing a Memorandum of Understanding
  • Strengthen public-private partnerships to open new global employment channels

This engagement marks a strategic milestone in positioning Egypt as a regional hub for global workforce deployment.
