Artificial Intelligence plays a key role to improve European labour markets. It supports people to find better jobs and supports workers and businesses to improve their performance for growth, safety and sustainability.
As the European Union sets out to promote the adaptation of responsible AI in the EU, the World Employment Confederation-Europe brought together stakeholders to showcase and discuss how this can be done in a changing world of work.
The event focused on how AI applications can be used to support jobseekers, workers and employers find a better labour market match. Randstad and Kelly, both corporate members of the World Employment Confederation, presented examples of chatbots which have significantly improved jobseekers’ experience by speeding up the screening process and increasing the opportunities to schedule job interviews.
Presenting the European Commission’s proposal for rules on AI, Kilian Gross from DG CONNECT highlighted that the goal of the legislation is to ensure the uptake of AI. The technology offers clear opportunties, notably to make labour markets more inclusive. A panel discussion then involved business representatives and a Professor specialised in ICT law. All stressed that a major issue with the EU proposal was the too broad definition of AI and its high risk uses which could severly impede innovation and the deployment of the technology.
